columns and the groups are the horizontal rows (the reverse of the modern
Periodic Table). The numbers after the symbols of the elements are the
atomic masses accepted by Mendeleev. The question marks at atomic mass
45, 68, and 70 were later identified as the elements scandium, gallium,
and germanium.
